Dimmitt Middle School authorized as International Baccalaureate Organization Middle Years Program

Dimmitt Middle School has been authorized as an International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to implement the Middle Years Program, a challenging framework designed for students aged 11 to 16 that emphasizes intellectual challenge and encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. It aims to develop students who are knowledgeable, principled, and active global citizens.

This achievement is the result of years of dedication, planning, and commitment from our leadership, staff, students, and parents. The work also includes verification visits by IBO representatives to gather evidence from school and district leadership, teachers, support staff, parents, and students. The authorization report commended Dimmitt Middle School for its respectful learning environment, relevant learning experiences that connect students with their community, encouraging students to be responsible for their own learning and act in response to their own needs and the needs of others.

Becoming an IB MYP school is a commitment to deliver an education that is inquiry-driven, globally connected, and deeply rooted in the development of the whole student.

What Does This Mean for Our Students?

The MYP is designed for students aged 11 to 16, a critical stage in their intellectual and personal growth. DMS will be offering years 1-3 of the MYP. The program challenges students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, preparing them to be confident, compassionate, and active global citizens.

With our official MYP authorization, Dimmitt students will now benefit from:

  • A globally recognized academic framework
  • Interdisciplinary learning that connects subjects in meaningful ways
  • A strong focus on critical thinking, communication, and reflection
  • Opportunities to explore global issues and act within their community
  • A curriculum and approach to teaching and learning that nurtures curiosity and creativity

What’s Next?

With this authorization, Dimmitt Middle School joins a global network of IB World Schools committed to excellence in education, including Renton High School which offers the IB Diploma and Career Programs. We will continue to grow, refine, and enrich the MYP experience to ensure that every student is empowered to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.

Authorization is not the end of Dimmitt’s IB journey—it is the beginning of a new and exciting era for all of us. Go, Vikings!
